Why I Do Not Accept Insurance

Choosing to begin therapy is a meaningful step, one that involves both personal commitment and thoughtful consideration. I value transparency and would like to share the reasons I do not participate directly with insurance panels.

1. Confidentiality and Privacy

In order to process claims, insurance companies require a formal mental health diagnosis and often request ongoing documentation about your treatment. This compromises the level of confidentiality I believe is essential to the therapeutic relationship. By working privately, your personal information remains strictly between us.

2. Flexibility in Treatment

Insurance companies often determine treatment length, frequency, and approach based on standardized criteria. I believe that effective therapy should be responsive to your unique goals and challenges, not dictated by external policies. A private-pay structure allows us to tailor the pace and scope of our work without restriction.

3. Focus on Quality of Care

By not contracting with insurance, I avoid extensive administrative demands, which allows me to devote more time and energy to your care. This includes continued training, thoughtful session planning, and being fully present in our work together.

4. Out-of-Network Options

If your insurance plan includes out-of-network benefits, you may be eligible for partial reimbursement. I’m happy to provide monthly superbills (detailed receipts) upon request that you can submit directly to your insurance provider.

Yes, I work with couples by helping them slow down, really hear each other, and understand the deeper patterns driving conflict, distance, or disconnection. I draw on Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to strengthen your emotional bond and The Gottman Method to give you practical, research-based tools you can start using right away. This means we don’t just focus on “the fights” themselves we explore what’s happening underneath: the needs, fears, and longings that often go unspoken but drive how you relate to one another.

Because my background is trauma- and attachment-focused, I’m attuned to how past experiences, nervous system responses, or high-stress roles (like military, first responder, or healthcare work) can influence your relationship today. Sometimes this means gently untangling old wounds that get activated in the present, working through the aftermath of betrayal, or addressing intimacy challenges and compulsive behaviors. For other couples, it’s about finding ways back to connection after years of feeling like “roommates” instead of partners.

I work best with couples who are committed to showing up for the process even if you’re feeling hopeless or on the brink of separation. It’s okay if you’re not sure where the relationship is headed. Therapy can be a space to gain clarity, strengthen your bond, or decide on next steps with compassion. Each session is a mix of emotional repair, skill-building, and moments of genuine connection, so you leave not only with insight but also with experiences of being together differently. My role is to guide you toward a relationship that feels more open, steady, and connected, one step at a time.

We offer a free 15–20 minute phone consultation to answer your questions and determine if we’re a good fit for your needs. This is a no-pressure conversation where you can get a feel for our approach and share anything you’re comfortable with.

3. Complete Intake Forms

If we decide to move forward, we’ll send you secure digital intake forms to complete before your first session. These forms help us understand your background, preferences, and hopes for therapy.

4. Attend Your First Session

Your first session is a gentle starting point. We’ll talk through your story at your own pace, clarify your goals, and begin building the safe, trusting relationship that effective therapy requires. You’re in control of how much you share, and we’ll move at a pace that honors your comfort.

Once you reach out, you’ll receive a brief intake form along with a link to schedule a complimentary consultation call. This initial conversation is an opportunity for us to connect so I can understand what’s bringing you in, answer your questions, and ensure the work feels like the right fit for you.

If we decide to move forward, you’ll be sent intake paperwork and consent forms to complete in advance. This gives me a thoughtful understanding of your history, your goals, and any key experiences that may shape how we approach our work together.

Before your first session, I’ll also orient you to how I work and the types of approaches I may draw from. My work is integrative, body-based, and grounded in evidence-based practices, allowing us to tailor the process to your needs with care and precision.

If you’re interested in more focused or accelerated options, such as extended sessions or immersive formats we can explore what that might look like for you. I’ll also provide guidance on how to prepare, including creating a comfortable, private space if we’re meeting virtually, so you can feel as settled and ready as possible.

My intention is for you to feel informed, supported, and at ease before we begin, so you can arrive to your first session with clarity and confidence in the process.

The length of therapy depends on your goals, your history, and the pace that feels right for you. Some people come in with a specific issue they want to address and feel ready to wrap up in just a few months. Others choose to work together longer to explore deeper patterns, heal old wounds, and create lasting changes in how they feel, function, and connect.

Because my approach is personalized and often body-based, we’re not just looking for quick relief we’re aiming for meaningful change that lasts. We’ll check in regularly about your progress and adjust your plan along the way. I’ll never keep you in therapy just for the sake of it, and I’ll never rush you through before you feel ready. The process moves at the pace of trust, readiness, and the shifts you want to see.

For those who prefer a more focused or condensed experience, I also offer rapid transformation options, which may involve longer or more frequent sessions, intensive EMDR, or integrating modalities like Accelerated Resolution Therapy, Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy for deeper work in a shorter period of time. This can be especially helpful if you’re traveling in from out of town, working around a tight schedule, or simply wanting to make faster progress.

Whether you choose a traditional pace or an rapid transformation options, therapy is always a collaborative process we’ll decide together what works best for you, your life, and your goals.

If you’re in immediate crisis thinking about harming yourself, feeling unsafe, or unable to care for yourself the most important step is to reach out for help right away. While I provide therapy for clients physically located in Texas, Oregon, and Washington, I do not offer same-day or urgent appointments, and I’m not able to provide emergency or crisis intervention. Therapy works best when there’s time and space to slow down, explore, and process not when you’re in the middle of an immediate safety concern.
